Jean Witherspoon Mimnaugh

Jean Witherspoon Mimnaugh died Friday, March 25, 2011.
She was born in Greenville, SC, the daughter of the late Maude Gaines and John Donnom Witherspoon. She grew up in Laurens and was educated in the Laurens Schools. She was a 1945 graduate of Furman University. She moved to Clinton in 1950 when she married the late John Lanty Mimnaugh III. He predeceased her on October 15, 1978. He was 54 years old.
She was a homemaker and a member of one bridge club since 1952 and another since 1985. She and her husband, John, were charter members of the Clinton Cotillion Club. She was 1969 Cotillion secretary, 1970 Debutante presentation coordinator, and 1975 Debutante Ball chairman.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Women of the Church. In the 1960’s and 1970’s she taught Sunday School in the 5 and 6 year olds for many years.
She loved her flowers and had unusual varieties of the well-know kind, she was very generous in sharing bouquets of these with her friends. Jean was fortunate enough to have true and loyal friends of all ages and from many different cities and states. All her life she cherished them, and they sustained her in her last days.
Jean was gifted with a remarkable memory and a photographic mind which enables a person to remember many, many details. She possessed an adventurous spirit and loved to travel and did so until she developed crippling arthritis.
Surviving are two sons, William Emory Dillon, III and wife, Angie and John Lanty Mimnaugh IV, four grandchildren; Stephen Emory Dillon and wife, Sally and Donet Dillon Morf and husband, Joseph, Lanty Jason Mimnaugh, and John Emory Mimnaugh and wife, Shelly; four great-grandchildren, Brandon Mimnaugh, Julianna Mimnaugh, Leah Mimnaugh and Lila Morf.
She was especially thankful for the excellent therapy and excellent nurses, aides and all staff of The Langston House and to all her sitters and companions who helped her in the latter years of her life.
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Clinton Sunday, March 27th at 2:00 p.m.
The family will receive friends following the service in the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall followed by a private burial service in the family plot in the Laurens City Cemetery. Her grandson, Brandon will release a white dove at the graveside.
