Jennie Caldwell Walker, age 93, of Whitmire, SC and widow of John Calhoun Walker died Monday, April 12, 2010 in the Wallace Thompson Hospital in Union, SC.
She was born in Newberry County and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Haskell and Mattie Brown Caldwell.
Mrs. Walker and her husband were married for 65 years. She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law; John Caldwell and Judy Walker of Hartsville SC, William Lynn Walker of San Antonio TX, and Haskell Arthur Walker of Melbourne FL; one grandson, Pearce Walker; a brother-in-law, A. H. (Buster) Walker, Jr; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Sims W. Caldwell, Alan J. Caldwell, Wylie H. Caldwell Sr, Richard Caldwell, and a sister Elizabeth Caldwell.
Mrs. Walker grew up in the Long Lane community of Newberry County and was a 1937 graduate of Newberry College. She retired after a long teaching career in the Whitmire public schools. She was a member of the Whitmire Presbyterian Church and held numerous leadership positions. She received the award of Honorary Life Membership of Presbyterian Women.
She loved her family, friends, and church, and faithfully served her community in a variety of volunteer activities.
The family wishes to express their thanks to her special friends, Dr. Robert Yannetti and Karen Yannetti, and her loving caregivers, Judy Duncan, Elsie Vicars, and Carolyn Wessinger. Thanks are also extended to the members of the Whitmire Presbyterian Church for their care and concern to Mrs. Walker over the years.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 14, at 11:00am in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Webster Curry with interment in the Whitmire Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 am before the service at Gray Funeral Home.
