Joe R. (Sam) Koon, Sr.

Joe R. (Sam) Koon, Sr. age 89 formerly of 601 Whitmire Hwy. and widower of Dorothy S. Koon died Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the National Health Care of Clinton.
He was born in Newberry County and was a son of the late Joel O. and Mary Taylor Koon.
Mr. Koon was a former employee of Greenwood Mills and retired from J.P. Stevens, Whitmire Plant. He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church and served in the Civilian Conservation Corp and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he was decorated for bravery in the Burma Campaign.
Surviving are three sons, Joe R. Koon, Jr. and wife, Vivian of Clinton, Gene Koon and wife, Dot of Laurens and Mike Koon of Laurens; a sister, Mary Pinner Koon of Ballentine; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Martha Thomas and Dorothy Stabler.
Funeral service will be conducted Sunday, Mar. 6th at 2:00 p.m. in the Epworth United Methodist Church with burial in Pinelawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
