John E. “Bill” Willingham age 93, of 413 Pickens St., and widower of Juanita F. Willingham passed away January 10, 2018 at the Laurens County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Newberry, SC and was the son of Hayne M. and Lillie Belle Hendrix Willingham.
Mr. Willingham was a graduate of Clinton High School and Presbyterian College, Class of 1953. He proudly served his country during WWII in the US Army Air Corp. He was a long time employee of Greenwood Mills and later retired from the United Insurance Company of America. Mr. Willingham served on the District 56 Laurens County School Board, was a member of the Magnolia Masonic Lodge #355, the Laurens County Shrine Club, Hejaz Shrine Temple, and was a faithful member of Bellview Baptist Church and the Robert L. Moore Sunday School Class.
Mr. Willingham is survived by his two sons, John R. Willingham (Stephanie) of Charleston and Thomas E. Willingham (Wendy) of Joanna; his daughter, Becky Hulion (Bruce) of West Columbia; a special friend, Jackie Oxner of Clinton; his six grandchildren, David Willingham, Matthew Willingham, Joseph Willingham, Brandon Willingham; Jason Hulion, and Amy Hulion; his five great-grandchildren, Wesley Willingham, Wyatt Willingham, Kinsley Willingham, Carter Hulion, and Davis Hulion.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Clinton. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Pinelawn Memory Gardens.
The family will be at the home of his son, Thomas E. Willingham, 309 Sims Street, Joanna, SC 29351.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bellview Baptist Church Building Fund, 757 Bellview Church Road, Laurens, SC 29360.
