Dateline – Clinton, SC
John W. Kennington, Sr., age 83, of 35 Napa Way, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at NHC of Clinton.
He was born in Pageland, SC and was a son of the late Dr. George Winford and Beulah Wylane Porter Kennington.
Mr. Kennington was a retired Pharmacist having worked in several local pharmacies. He was a graduate of University of South Carolina and was an avid Gamecock Fan. He was a US Army Veteran, as well as, a Life Member of American Legion Post 56, had served as Post Commander and was very active promoting and instrumental in sending many young men and women to Palmetto Boys State and Girls State. He was a volunteer Pharmacist with Good Shepard Clinic; past president of the Clinton Exchange Club, a member of the Masons and Hejaz Shrine Temple; and a member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton and Signet Sunday School Class.
Mr. Kennington is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha Clark Kennington of the home; his son, Dr. John W. Kennington, Jr., (Shawn) of Indianapolis, IN; his daughter, Suzanne Kennington of Clinton; his brother, William Cullen Bryant Kennington of Charlotte, NC; a sister-in-law, Ruth C. Clark of Florence; his grandchildren, Kristen Farmer, Michael Ray Farmer, Lauren A. Kennington and Phillip S. Kennington; and four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, George Porter Kennington, Betty Jo Kennington McKinnon and Margaret Louise Kennington.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 18th at 11 AM at First Baptist Church of Clinton and burial with Military Honors in Pinelawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends before the service from 9:30 to 11 AM at the church Fellowship Hall.
