John “Jack” Furman McCarley, Jr., age 86, of 294 Church St, passed away Monday, December 12, 2016 at the NHC of Clinton.
He was born in Whitmire, SC and was the son of the late John Furman and Flora Beatrice Gaffney McCarley. He graduated from Whitmire High in 1947 and upon graduating Jack joined the Navy for three years. He then worked for the National Guard in Whitmire for 20 years, and the Hampton National Guard from 1974 to 1985, Jack was then called into active duty from 1983 until his retirement in 1986. He then started on his missions working for God and others thru Carpenters for Christ for the next 12 years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Jean McCarley of the home; his daughter, Jeanine Claire McCarley of Chapin; his son, John Furman McCarley, III of Whitmire; his sister, Nellie Claire Pigg; his six grandchildren, John McCarley, IV (Leighann) of Kinards, Tanya Edwards of Chapin, Charlie McCarley of Whitmire, Timmy Edwards (Tiffany) of Irmo, Josh McCarley of Boiling Springs, and Rebecca Glymph of Whitmire; his three great-grandchildren, Chase, Noah, and Dalana McCarley; and his special doctor, Dr. Fran Kunda.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Whitmire. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Gray Funeral Home of Whitmire. Burial will be at the Whitmire City Cemetery.
