John H. Pitts age 85, a resident of Presbyterian Home of Clinton passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2nd, 2013.
He was born Nov. 22, 1927 in Clinton and was son of the late J. Henderson and Esther Byers Pitts. He is survived by his wife, Anne Reid Pitts of Clinton.
Pitts served a tour of Army duty in Japan in ‘46 – ‘48 and graduated from Clemson University in 1951. He served as a tank officer in the Korean War in ‘51 and ‘52.
He was a long time member of Kiwanis and served as Governor of the Georgia District of Kiwanis in ’90 –‘91 and was named a distinguished governor by Kiwanis International.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton and had been a deacon in the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church of Stone Mountain, GA.
Pitts remained a loyal worker and supporter of Clemson University and was presented the Distinguished Service Award from Clemson University in 2001. He was a member of the Clemson Alumni Senior Platoon; the American Legion, Sons of the American Revolution and the 73rd Tank Battalion Association.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 5th at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall.
