John Robert Christopher Flynn of Whitmire, South Carolina departed his life of service on Earth to enter into God’s Kingdom on December 8, 2018. Born on July 19, 1959 John was a native of Rock Hill, South Carolina but he has spent nearly 40 years as a beloved resident of Whitmire. He was predeceased by his father Leroy and his mother Peggy. John was a loving and devoted father and grandfather and he is survived by his daughter Rebecca Pixler (Tyson) and his grandchildren Gracie, Natalie, Jace, Synclair and Aurora Pixler.
John proudly served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. John then turned service into his life’s work beginning his career in public safety at Rock Hill Fire Department in Rock Hill, South Carolina in 1981. In 1983 John became a South Carolina Paramedic. He worked at Laurens County EMS from 1988-1990. In 1990 he began working at Newberry County EMS where he served as a paramedic until the time of his death. John was also a dedicated volunteer paramedic with the Newberry County Rescue Squad until his death. Co-workers and fellow volunteers describe John as selfless, kind, dedicated, humble, skilled and knowledgeable. John’s impact on his EMS Service was so great that his unit’s radio call sign was returned upon his passing. John was also widely known as an animal lover who saw after strays that would appear at his station as well as his own animals at home.
A memorial service will be held at the Newberry County Rescue Squad – Terry Greene Station on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Newberry Rescue Squad.
