Johnny Clifton Baxter

Johnny Clifton Baxter, age 84, of Mountville, SC, husband of Carolyn Lee Williams Baxter, passed away, Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Prisma Health Laurens County Hospital.
Johnny was born on May 21, 1939, in White Plains, NC, and was the beloved son of the late Frank and Mary Effie Stanley Baxter. Johnny's educational journey took him through high school in North Carolina, the Opportunities Industrialization Center, and Temple University. He dedicated many years of his life as a chemist at Smith, Kline, and French before embarking on a new career path with the Philadelphia Housing Authority Police, eventually retiring as a Corrections Officer from the Philadelphia Department of Corrections. Johnny was also a respected thirty-three degree Mason in Philadelphia, associated with the Red and Blue Lodge. Known as a "Jack of All Trades," Johnny C. Baxter's legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife of 34 years, he is survived by his sons, Bernie, and Raymond; his daughters, Tineka W. Banks, Dorica, and Denise; his brother, Clevon V. Baxter; and his sister, Esther L. Baxter; and a host of beloved grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Darrell; his daughter, Darlene; his brother, John J. Baxter; and his sisters, Emma Grace Baxter Terrell, Dorothy Mae Baxter McKoy, and Sadie Baxter.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Clinton with Rev. Phil Bryson officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11 AM at the funeral home.
