Joseph Tony Black, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 25, 2024.
Born on October 4, 1943, in Clinton, South Carolina, Tony was the beloved son of the late J.A. and Pauline Burnett Black. Tony retired from the Torrington Bearing Company, was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, and of Baptist faith. Above all, he cherished his role as “Cookie Papa” to his grandchildren.
Tony is survived by his daughters, Dina Muse and Lisa Snelgrove, both of Clinton, and Toni “Jaye” Townsend (Gene) of Simpsonville; his sister, Helen Fellers of Newberry; six grandchildren, Melanie Cash, Jessica Snelgrove, Tyler Truelock, Taylor Cauble, Ryan Townsend, and Dylan Townsend; as well as thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Estes Black; his sister, Bonnie Sue Lewis; and his brother, Danny Black.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 3:00 PM in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Clinton with Pastor Scott Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service at Gray Funeral Home.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678.
