Josie Bell Leary Cox, age 92, was the daughter of the late Kate Pinson Leary and William Linwood Leary of Greenwood. A Clinton resident since 1946, she was the wife of the late James Robert Cox and is survived by six daughters, 19 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. They include Dr. and Mrs. John Isham Moore, Jr. (Kayran), Charleston; Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Ernest Floyd, Sr. (Linwood), Clinton; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Yackey (Robbie Kate), Charleston; Dr. and Mrs. Ray Henley (Michelle), Evans, GA; Attorney and Mrs. Johnathan Bryan (Jane Etta), Sumter; and Ms. Alicia Leigh Jacks, Clinton.
She is also survived by a brother, Rupert Leslie Leary (Dotty) of Clemson, and a predeceased brother, Julius Linwood Leary of Greenwood.

Great grandchildren include Gabriella, Chloe, and Sydney Moore, New Arbor, IL; Nate and Keira Moore, Silver Spring, MD; Mary, Caleb, and Abigail Smith, Charlottesville, VA; Ella Kate Haupfear, Clinton; Sidda Leigh and Henry Harris, Westminster; Eli, Logan, and Addie Kate Miles, Charleston; Eloise and Orin O’Quinn, Summerville; Caroline and Legare Redmond, Goose Creek.
Josie Cox, a Cum Laude graduate of Furman University, double majored in French and Home Economics and minored in Chemistry. She was a member of Furman’s French Club, National Honor Society, Choir, and Christian Baptist Youth Association. She was also the Sigma Chi Fraternity Sweetheart. Upon graduation, she married James Robert Cox of Fairmont and became the co-owner and bookkeeper of Cox Home and Auto Supply, Incorporated, in Clinton, one of the first independent Firestone dealerships.
She served as grade mother, PTA President for several terms, Camp Fire Girls’ leader and Board of Directors member for 15 years; President, Secretary, and Social Chairman for the Christian Women’s Club for eight years, and choir member of South Main Street Baptist Church in Greenwood for ten years. A charter member of the Clinton Cotillion Club, she served as Debutante Ball Chairperson and secretary for ten years.
Mrs. Cox was a charter member of Lakeside Country Club, member of the American Legion Post, the High Hat Club of Indianapolis, the National Notch Registry, and the Alliance for Retired Americans. She volunteered for projects sponsored by the Clinton Kiwanis Club, the Indianapolis Lion’s Club, the Global Missions program, and the Salesian Mission’s Adopt-a-Child program. In 1982 her family received the Family of the year award for the state of SC. A former member of the Faith Sunday School Class and the Watts Mission Circle, Mrs. Cox was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 1 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton. The Family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
