Joyce Walsh Rykard, age 84, widow of David S. “Skip” Rykard passed away Friday, July 12, 2024, at the home of her daughter.
Joyce was born September 9, 1939, in Fairfield County and was the daughter of the late Clifton and Blanche Ramsey Walsh.
She was a retired Social Worker with the South Carolina Department of Social Services. Joyce enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs, she was also a member of the Gordon Memorial Methodist Church. She was an avid Gamecock Fan and supported them in all sports.
Surviving are her three children, Dr. D. Kevin Rykard (Mary) of Edmond, OK, S. Clay Rykard (Michelle M. Lothridge) of Laurens, Michelle Evans (Dee) of Manning; seven loving grandchildren that called her “MawMaw”, Marah Rykard, Kathryn Rykard Shook (Will), Caroline Rykard, Makayla Rykard Mason (Connor), Shelby Evans, Grace Rykard, Chandler Evans; her grandchildren in heart; Kensley Lothridge and Dalton Lothridge; great grandchildren, Baker Mason, Walker Mason and one on the way.
Joyce was the last surviving member of her family and in addition to her parents and husband was predeceased by two brothers, Harold Walsh and Robert Walsh and a daughter-in-law, Lisa Rykard.
Funeral service will be conducted Monday, July 15, 2024 at 12 Noon at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Laurens conducted by Mr. Dee Evans. Burial will be at the Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The family will greet friends prior to the service from 11:00 to 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
The family will be gathering at the home of her son, S. Clay Rykard, 104 Cedar Court, Laurens, SC 29360.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to The Presbyterian Church of Manning, P.O. Box 207, Manning, SC 29102.
Gray Funeral Home of Laurens is assisting the family with arrangements.
