Judge James Austin Davis, Jr., age 78, of 9320 Hwy. 221 South died Saturday, May 14, 2011 in the NHC of Laurens.
He was born in Waterloo and was the son of the late James Austin Davis, Sr. and Ethel Reeder Davis.
Judge Davis served 27 years as Chief Magistrate for Laurens County. He was a member and Sunday School teacher at the Waterloo United Methodist Church, a member of the Waterloo Men’s Club, a member of the Cross Hill Masonic Lodge, a longtime member and served on the Board of Director for the Waterloo Fire Department, served with the Senior Options, was a recipient of the Key to the Town of Waterloo, and was an avid supporter of the Laurens Raiders, S.C. Gamecocks and the Atlanta Braves.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Lou Palmer Davis of the home; a daughter, Lori Bradford and husband, Bob of Waterloo; a grandson, Jacob Bradford; two brothers, Ray Davis of Waterloo and Willis Davis of Laurens and a sister, Sadie Fuller of Laurens.
He was predeceased by a sister, Rebecca Sherfield and a brother, J.W. Davis.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in the Waterloo United Methodist Church with interment in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday before the service from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the church.
