Julia Alewine Wessinger, age 100, widow of J.D. Wessinger, passed away, Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
She was born August 3, 1923 in Silverstreet, SC and was a daughter of the late James Marion and Nannie Taylor Blair Alewine. Julia retired from Bank of American, after which she enjoyed traveling with Christian Tours and attending activities at the Senior Center. Mrs. Wessinger was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church and the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son, Douglas V. Wessinger (Carolyn) of Prosperity; her granddaughter, Tracy Hill; her great-grandchildren, Stephanie Pugh (Brandon), Brittany Reece (Thomas); her great-great grandchildren, Braylee Pugh, Briggston Pugh, Blair Reece, and Michael Reece; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Martha Watts, Nancy Longshore, Louise Goggins, James "Buddy" Alewine, and Thomas Alewine.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staffs of White Oak Manor, Newberry County Memorial Hospital, and Lovelace Family Medicine of Prosperity for all their special love and care to Mrs. Wessinger.
Funeral Services will be conducted 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 18, 2024 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Williams and Rev. Jeff O'Dell officiating. Burial will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1853 Little Egypt Road, Whitmire, SC 29178.
