Kathryn Rebecca (Beckey) Speake

Kathryn Rebecca (Beckey) Speake, age 97, died on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at National Health Care in Laurens.
She was born on August 12,1919 in Laurens County, and was the daughter of the late George Thomas Speake and Elliott Dobbins Speake. A graduate of Clinton High School, she attended Presbyterian College where she studied business and art. She worked as an office manager until she retired. A talented artist, Miss Speake enjoyed painting and photography.
She was a lifelong member of Broad Street United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a former member of the Clinton Christian Women’s Club and led many Bible studies in her home.
Miss Speake is survived by a sister, Frances Speake McMeekin of Lancaster; four nephews, Fred Holcombe of Cary, NC, Phil Motes of Augusta, GA, Bert Weathers of Greenville, and Tommy Motes of Laurens; and two nieces, Rebecca Stevenson and Elizabeth Parker, both of Lancaster; and a beloved cousin, Louise Speake Wood of Clemson. She is also survived by seven great-nieces, Kathryn Stevenson, Frances Parker, Mary Herndon, Courtney Boling, Marianne Motes, Elizabeth Rowe, and Anna Motes; and six great-nephews, Edward Holcombe, Gee Parker, Hamer Holcombe, Christopher Motes, Chase Weathers, and Matthew Motes.
Miss Speake was predeceased by one brother, George Shannon Speake; three sisters, Sara Weathers, Mary Emma Motes, and Lillian Holcombe; a nephew, Joe Holcombe, and two nieces, Kathy Weathers, Sara Speake Weathers, and a great-nephew, Nicholas Weathers.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Miss Speake will be at 2:00 on Tuesday, January, 10, 2016 at Broad Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steven Keck officiating. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hodges Hall, Broad Street United Methodist Church.
