Larry Gar, age 75 of 893 Trinity Church Rd died Wednesday, September 27, 2006 in Greer.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York and was a son of the late Michael and Alice Feldman Goldberg.
Mr. Gar retired after many years in radio as a sportscaster, sales and marketing. Locally he worked with WLBG, WSSL and WPCC. He was a Past President of the Laurens Dixie Youth Baseball, Past President of the Presbyterian College Diamond Club and a long time Clemson IPTAY representative. He was a member of the Laurens Exchange Club, the Laurens County Fair Association, Laurens VFW, Hejaz Shrine Temple. Mr. Gar was the play by play announcer for the Greenwood Braves an Atlanta Braves minor league team. He was a member of the Laurens District 55 Hall of Fame and in 2005 the North/South High School Football game was dedicated in his honor. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Lovette Gar of the home; one son, Joey Gar and his wife, Beth of Simpsonville; two daughters, Laura Campbell and husband, Jim of Gray Court, Beth McCrary and husband Sam of Lexington, SC; one brother, Jerry Goldberg and wife, Jan of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren, Lindsey and Matthew Campbell, Ryan and Hannah McCrary and Tori and Evan Gar.
Funeral service will be conducted at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday, Sept. 30th at 10:00 a.m. with burial in Westview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday.
The family will be at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Jim Campbell, 897 Lincoln Rd., Gray Court, SC.
