Leon Symes Deitz, Sr. age 66, of 144 Denna Dr. died Friday, February 11, 2011 at the Laurens County Hospital.
He was born in Anderson, SC and was a son of Viola Carson Deitz of Clinton and the late Fred Lee Deitz.
Mr. Deitz was retired from Whitten Center and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Army and continued his service in the South Carolina National Guard for a total of 20 years service for his country. He was a member of the Bellview Baptist Church, the Joanna Lions Club and a volunteer at the Hospice Thrift Store.
Surviving are his children, Leon Symes Deitz III of Clinton, Denna Griffin and Melinda Gail Cumbie both of Clinton, Lisa Truelock of Laurens and Theresa Culbertson of Joanna; three brothers, Willis Deitz of Clinton, Wayne Deitz of Kinards and Marvin Deitz of Greenville; fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was predeceased by two wives, the first, Milda “Jodie” Abercrombie and his second, Mary Deitz, also an infant son, Leon Symes Deitz, Jr., a daughter, Tracy Gore and two brothers, James and Frank Deitz.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Feb. 15th at 2:00 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Don Peake and Rev. Jack Elders, burial with full military honors will follow in the Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
