Lester Alfred Cross, 83 went to meet his Savior on September 23, 2010 when he died at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, SC.
He was born in Dunmore, PA on August 22, 1927 and was the seventh child of Walter and Myrtle Cross. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brothers, Walter, Jr, Thomas, William and Howard. He is survived by his sisters, Helen C. Christ, Owensboro, KY; Freda Belle C. Jackson, Moscow, PA; Sylvia C. Graves, Nashville, TN. and brothers, Ralph G., Ringgold, GA; Paul R., Nicholasville, KY and David L., Worchester, England, as well as 32 nieces and nephews and their families who loved him very much. Lester lived in Dunmore and worked with his father and brothers in the coal business and later at the Charlmont in the Globe Store. In 1980 he moved to South Carolina and worked at BiLo and Ingles. His hobbies included dominos, latch hooking and especially keeping up with the birthdays of all his family and friends.
At the time of his death he resided at Bailey Manor in Clinton, SC, where he had lived since his brother, Tom began developing the facility in 1990. In his lifetime he enjoyed traveling to visit his dear family in far-away places including Australia, Italy, Hawaii and South America.
He was active at Bailey Manor and Westminster Presbyterian Church and was known by all as “Uncle Lester”. He proudly displayed his Sunday certificate of 25 years of perfect attendance at Grace Church, Scranton, PA.
A memorial service will be held at Bailey Manor on September 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.. Interment will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Clark’s Summit, PA.
