Lillie T. Owings, age 84, of 5726 Hwy. 221 South and widow of Richard L. Owings, died Monday, June 14, 2010 in the Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg.
She was born in Laurens County and was the daughter of the late Willie L. and Marie Nelson Thompson.
Mrs. Owings was retired from the District 55 School System and was a member of the Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church and a former Sunday School teacher at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Patsy Owens and Jim of Laurens and Carolyn Ridlehuber and Bill of Laurens; two sisters, Pearl T. Green of Laurens and Alice T. Mattison of Greenwood; 7 grandchildren, Greg Ridlehuber of Columbia, Mark Ridlehuber of Fort Bragg, NC, Steven Armstrong and Patty Stonell of Laurens, John Owens, James F. Owens and Marie Owens all of Laurens; 8 great grandchildren and a faithful dog, Paco.
She was predeceased by sisters, Nell Deloach, Lois Hall, Helen Thompson; brothers, Carol Thompson, Vernon Thompson, Bill Thompson and Harold Thompson.
A private graveside service for the family will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery followed by a celebration service at 11:00 a.m. in the Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church by Rev. Tony Crouch and Rev. Rhett Wilson.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
