Louise Monk Plaxico age 83 and the widow of Tom Plaxico died Friday, April 14, 2006 at the Presbyterian Home of SC in Clinton.
She was born in Moultrie, GA, and was the daughter of the late Wiley Monk and Eula Curry Monk.
Louise was voted “Most Intellectual” by her high school graduating class, and she began her career as a bookkeeper in Moultrie. On the invitation of her former minister and President of Thornwell Orphanage, Dr. Malcolm McDonald, she moved to Clinton in 1946 to become Assistant Bookkeeper at Thornwell. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Clinton for sixty years, faithful choir member, and former President of Sunbonnet Garden Club. She worked with her husband for seventeen years as his bookkeeper at Plaxico Chevrolet in Clinton. In their retirement they enjoyed gardening, traveling to Europe and regionally and visiting their children and grandchildren. Since 1999 she resided at the Presbyterian Home of Clinton where she made many loving friends.
Louise’s legacy is her abiding faith, her unwavering love for her family and friends, her heartfelt and precisely penned correspondence, her expansive vocabulary and her deep appreciation of music and beauty.
Surviving are her three children, Dr. David Thomas Plaxico of Macon, GA, Sharon Plaxico Peery of Tazewell, VA, and Lorraine Carroll Plaxico of Weaverville, NC, five grandchildren and one great grandchild, and a special friend, Miss Betty Cureton.
She was predeceased by her sister, Marilyn Monk Groover, of Macon, GA, and her brother, Wiley E. Monk of Atlanta, GA.
A memorial service will be conducted Monday, April 17th at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Presbyterian Home in Clinton, SC.
The family will greet friends Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Main Parlor of the Presbyterian Home.
A private family graveside service will precede the memorial service.
