Dateline – Laurens
Margaret Ellen Copeland Thompson, age 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 31, 2016, at the Hospice House of Laurens County.
She was the widow of Guy Thompson and the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Copeland and Blanche Turner Copeland.
Mrs. Thompson was a retiree of Torrington Plant and was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church where she faithfully worked with Pre-School Sunday School.
She is survived by her son, Charles Wendell Thompson (Dianne) of Gray Court; her daughters, Mary Henrietta Leopard of Simpsonville, Pamela Guy Campbell (Henry) of Laurens, and Barbara “Sophie” Collins (Gene) of Gray Court; her son-in-law, Barney Carroll Wasson of Laurens; her sisters-in-law, Audrey Langley and Virginia Thompson; her brother-in-law, James White; her grandchildren, Jacqueline Denise Burroughs (Don) of Laurens, Kathy Ann Sibirzeff (Peter) of Connecticut, Barney Carroll Wasson, II (Tara) of Laurens, Gregory Samuel Duvall of Gray Court, Marie Suzanne Turner (Billy) of Gray Court, Amanda Rose Schraner (Chris) of Gray Court, Candice Michelle Phillips (Chad) of Laurens, Samantha Danielle Campbell of Gray Court, Brandie Alliston Thompson of Spartanburg, Jesse Lee Thompson of Columbia, Karen Nichole Jackson (Julian) of Greenville, James Eugene Collins of Gray Court, Nathaniel Lee Collins (Kayla) of Gray Court, and Joshua Shane Collins (Kim) of Gray Court; twenty-two great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Judy McGeehon, who gave much of her time to care for Mrs. Thompson.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Thompson was predeceased by her daughter, Gail Thompson Wasson; her sisters, Aurilia Hood and Freddie Mae White, and her son-in-law, Olin Leopard.
The family would like to thank the special caregivers, Carla, Amy, Julie, Sandra, Emma, Karen, Terrie, and Amanda.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 4th, at 2:00 PM, at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, with burial at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home in Laurens.
The family will be at the home of Mrs. Thompson at 5803 Highway 76W, Laurens, for a drop-in Saturday evening from 4 to 7.
