Margaret Duckett Bixler, wife of the late Rev. Alfred L. Bixler, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at Martha Franks Retirement Home in Laurens, SC where she had lived for three years. She was the daughter of Samuel L. and Lourene B. Duckett and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, SC.
She will be remembered by her family and friends for many things, but especially for the genuine care and concern she always had for others, for her sense of humor, her sweet smile and her graceful manner. She spent her childhood years in Charlotte, NC, and graduated from Queens College. As the wife of a Presbyterian minister, she and her husband served pastorates in Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, Alabama, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Georgia.
She is survived by a sister, Sara D. Pickard, of Charlotte, NC and by her three children, Linda Bixler Whitley and husband, Bruce, of Greenville, SC, Alfred L. Bixler, Jr., and wife, Rita, of Laurens, SC, and Margaret Leigh Bixler Dixon and husband, Danny, of Louisburg, NC. She had six grandchildren, Alfred L. Bixler, III, and wife, Georgia, of Charleston, SC., Christopher B. Whitley, and wife Ashley, of Charlotte, NC, Rachael Dixon Beal, and husband, Scott, of Weisbaden, Germany, Cannon T. Bixler, and wife, Jessica of Greenville, SC, Austin R. Whitley, and wife, Lisa, of Atlanta, GA, Meagan Dixon Veach, and husband, Tim of Louisburg, NC. and two great grandchildren, Leighton Beal and Bronwynn Veach.
She was preceded in death by her husband and by two sisters, Dorothy D. Pike and Sammie D. Elliot and a brother, Tom Duckett.
A memorial service will be held in the Martha Franks Chapel on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm.
