Marion Smith Simmons, resident of Clinton, died at the Presbyterian Community of Clinton on January 3, 2025, at the age of 102.
She was born the daughter of the late Clyde and Louise Smith in Saluda, SC, on November 19, 1922. She graduated from Clinton High School and attended Presbyterian College for two years in the Business School Program. Lynn W. Cooper, Sr. offered her a job in the office at the Dodge and Plymouth Dealership where she worked for ten years.
Marion married Henry Talmadge Simmons of Clinton on March 15, 1947, after he returned home from Naval service in World War II in New Guinea. He preceded her in death in January 2006. Marion was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Clinton. She taught Sunday School when her children were young and was a member of Circle 2.
Marion is survived by her daughter and two sons: Patsy Lackey (Dale) of Spartanburg, Richard (Maureen) of Savannah, and Scott (Patsy) of Clinton. She is also survived by a brother, Clyde Henry Smith (Ann) of Renno, and two sisters-in-law, Martha (Gene) Simmons and Nancy (Harold) Simmons both of Presbyterian Community in Clinton. She was loved and respected by seven grandchildren, Ed Lehman (Leslie) of Wisconsin; Ben Lehman (Lindsay) of Charlotte; Josh Simmons (Liz) of Maryland: Joseph Simmons (Elizabeth) of Maryland: Lizzie Simmons of Savannah; Mary Kate Simmons of Abbeville; Anna Paige Milholland of Texas. In addition, fourteen great grandchildren held a very special place in her heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Keck officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in Cunningham Center. A private family burial will be held at Rosemont Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Broad Street United Methodist Church, 320 North Broad Street, Clinton, 29325 or Presbyterian Community, 801 Musgrove Street, Clinton, SC.
