It is with deep sadness that the family of Marvin Wright Manley, 82, announces his passing on Wednesday, August 27, 2014.
Mr. Manley was born in his childhood home in Greenwood, SC to Palmer Wright Manley and Sara Wrenn Manley.
He had one brother, Horace Manley, who is also deceased.
He later resided in Joanna, SC and graduated from Clinton High School. He married his high school sweet heart, Sue Cooper, who predeceased him in 1996. Love was able to find Mr. Manley twice and he married Emily Fisher in 2004. They lived the last 10 years together doting on each other and merging their two families into one.
Mr. Manley is survived by his wife, Emily; two daughters, Mary Beth Manley Holzworth and son-in-law, Pete Holzworth and Susan Kemper Manley Gambrell and son-in-law, Mike Gambrell. He also had many grandchildren, Kem Gambrell Owens and husband James Owens, Phillip Manley Holzworth and wife Kaylen Holzworth, Charles David Holzworth, Stephen Fagar Holzworth and Francis Suzanne Holzworth. He had the great fortune of having two great-granchildren, James Manley Owens and Lohla Holzworth.
Mr. Manley was active in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 where he served as a military policeman. He was also very active in his community of Clinton, SC. He was a member of the Hejaz Temple where at one time he served on the Director’s Staff. He was a firefighter for over 35 years and was the Chief of Volunteers in Clinton for many of those years. He had the honor of being inducted into the SC Firefighters Hall of Fame.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel.
The family is at the home of Emily Fisher, 2016 Johnson Marina Road, Chapin, SC.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thornwell Home for Children in Mr. Manley’s honor.
