Mary Bryson Turner

Mary Bryson Turner, age 84, a long time Myrtle Beach resident, teacher and devoted wife, passed peacefully Sunday, December 31, 2023, surrounded by friends and family in Mount Pleasant, SC. She had been a resident of Franke at Seaside for the last 9 years.

Marcy was born March 26, 1939, in Mountville, SC, the youngest of five children of Hugh Watt Bryson and Frances Workman Bryson. She attended Clinton High School, graduating in 1956, and Winthrop College, graduating in 1960. After graduation, she married Daniel W. Turner where they lived an adventurous life focused on their family and celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Dan and Marcy lived in Greenwood, Columbia, and Beaufort, SC prior to moving to Myrtle Beach, SC in 1972. From 1973 to 1996 she taught typing and computer science at Myrtle Beach Middle School. Upon retirement, they moved to Murrells Inlet, SC, to be closer to the activities that they always enjoyed together.

Marcy had a spirit for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, golfing, tennis, camping, burning fires and cooking. She became an accomplished boat driver when Dan lost eyesight and affectionately gained the nickname Mudbank Mary. Her infectious smile and kindness were traits everyone noticed immediately and will be missed by all. Survivors include two sons and a grandchild: Benjamin Bryson Turner and his wife Susan of Beaufort, SC, and their daughter Hailey of Raleigh, NC; Wesley Herring Turner and his wife June of Oxford, MS. In addition to her family, Marcy’s long term companion dog named Spunky, a Westie Terrier who lives with her son in Beaufort, SC.

Visitation will be 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Mountville Presbyterian Church, Mountville, SC. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM followed by a gathering of friends and family at the church.
