Mattie Ruth Blanton O’Shields, age 88 of 204 Phillips Street and NHC of Clinton, died Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Hospice House of Laurens County
in Clinton.
She was born in Cherokee County and was the daughter of the late Madison Craig and Mamie Byars Blanton. She was a 1940 graduate of Pauline High School in Pauline.
She was a retired weaver from Clinton Mills. She also worked at Jacobs Press in Clinton and was a Blue Lady at Presbyterian College. She was a faithful member of Davidson Street Baptist Church; sang alto in the church choir and served as a G.A. Leader. She was a proud member of the Doris Hellams’ Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, David Craig O’Shields and Terri of Clinton and two grandchildren, Katie and Maggie O’Shields.
Mrs. O’Shields was predeceased by her husband, David Herbert O’Shields ,her daughter, Deborah Lynn O’Shields; five sisters, Leatha Wallace, Lois Turner, Catherine Blanton, Eunice Corbin and Dorothy McSwain and a brother, Dean Blanton.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 18th at 3:00 p.m. at Davidson Street Baptist Church with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg.
The family will receive friends prior to the service Sunday from 2 to 3:00 p.m. at the Church.
