Melody Lisa Simmons

August 2, 1963 — January 24, 2019

Melody Lisa Simmons, 55, of Laurens, South Carolina, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, January 24, 2019. She was born in Laurens, South Carolina on August 2, 1963, the daughter of the late Franklin O’Neil Simmons and Virginia Fuller Simmons.
Melody was a graduate of Laurens District 55 High School and a proud former member of the LDHS Concert Choir and Raider Band Color Guard, lettering in both. She further studied at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood.
Professionally, Melody worked in retail, industrial manufacturing, and as a veterinarian’s assistant.
Melody was a believer in Christ and a faithful member of Bellview Baptist Church, where she was involved in the WMU, CARE Team, and the Singles Group. She was especially dedicated to her Sunday School class.
Melody enjoyed being outdoors, where she once had great times playing softball, fishing at the lake, and swimming at the beach. She was a talented artist, and her work was inspired by family and nature.
Melody had the most genuine soul, compassionate heart, and fun loving spirit. She was kind, generous, and loyal to family and friends. Known affectionately as “Aunt Dissy” by her niece, Ressa, and “Skip” by many of her friends, Melody always treasured time spent with others. Even on ordinary days, she was happiest when family gathered together playing games, sharing stories, and experiencing laughter. Her enthusiasm, beautiful smile, and encouraging nature will be greatly missed.
Melody is survived by her mother, Virginia Fuller Simmons, her uncle, Richard Fuller, both of Laurens, two sisters, Rhonda Simmons Thompson (Michael) of Greenville, and Kearston Simmons Moates of Laurens, a cherished niece, Ressa Moates of Laurens, many special cousins, and her beloved cat, “Sheffield.” She was also predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Grady and Madia Riddle Fuller formerly of Laurens, and her paternal grandparents, Boyd J. Simmons, formerly of Woodruff, and Albert and Elizabeth Hughes formerly of Laurens.
A Memorial Service will be conducted Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at 3:00 PM, officiated by the Reverend Adam Powers at Bellview Baptist Church in Laurens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A private burial is planned.
