Michael Jay Rinehart

August 23, 1948 — January 28, 2021

Michael Jay Rinehart, age 72, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021 at his home.
Born August 23, 1948 in Kokomo, Indiana, he was a son of the late Robert Jay and Dorothy Leslie Rinehart.
After a distinguished career in the United States Navy, he retired as Command Master Chief aboard the USS Francis Scott Key, SSBN-657. He was highly respected by his shipmates.
Mr. Rinehart deeply loved fishing, although Kathy caught most of the fish. He was quick with the fish tales and his jokes were never-ending. He was fiercely protective of his family. He never met a stranger, always treated everyone equally and was beloved by his family and friends. He will be sorely missed.
Mr. Rinehart is survived by his wife, Kathy Lane Rinehart, they were inseparable and loved each other unconditionally. He is also survived by his children, Andrew Rinehart of Jacksonville, Jessica Rinehart of Greenville, Stacie Williams and Troy, William Evans and wife, Kristi all of North Augusta; he was “Peepa” to his four grandchildren, Ashton Williams, Madison Evans, Camryn Williams and Kylee Evans; he is also survived by his step-sister, Sherri Rinehart (Sylvia); and step-brother, David Rinehart (Carmen).
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Tunnels to Towers, two charities that he was passionate about.
