Allie Milling Blalock, passed away on May 5, 2016.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Clinton on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 2 PM with the Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins officiating.
Milling was born in Clinton on August 4, 1941 and was the son of the late Dr. George Robert Blalock, Sr. and Almena Brooks Milling Blalock.
Milling graduated from Clinton High School in 1959 and graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN, with a BA in Political Science. While at Sewanee he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and the Order of Gownsmen.
He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law and practiced in Florence, SC for six years. In 1973 Milling returned to his hometown of Clinton to join Tench P. Owens in his law practice. Upon Mr. Owens retirement, Milling was joined in practice by the late Honorable James William Johnson, Jr. from 1983-1988. Milling continued to practice law until his own retirement in 2009.
Milling served Clinton as city judge (1979-1983) and city attorney (1986-2009). He was a member of the Laurens County Bar Association and the South Carolina Bar Association.
Milling was also active in his community. He was a member of Clinton Rotary Club (1974-2012) and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He served on the Hospice of Laurens County Board of Trustees from 1994-1999. From 2000-2003 Milling was a member of the Hospice Long Range Planning Committee, which played an integral part in the acquisition of property and the building of Hospice House. As a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Clinton, Milling served on the Board of Deacons, and as an Elder.
Although he was known to his many friends throughout Laurens County for his quick wit and his infectious sense of fun, nothing was more precious to Milling than his family. He loved working in his yard and watching birds, but his greatest pleasures came from planning special trips with his grandchildren and enjoying his family at his mountain home in Columbus, North Carolina.
Milling is survived by his wife of fifty years, Mary Lou Axelberg Blalock; his son, Allie Milling Blalock, Jr., of Greenville, SC and a daughter, Brooks Blalock Herman and her husband, Jason, and grandchildren, Emma Louise and Carter Milling Herman of Charlotte, North Carolina; his brother, Dr. George Robert Blalock, Jr., and his wife, Essie, of Georgetown, SC; his sister, Almena Brooks Blalock Lominack, and her husband, Ed, of Greenville, SC; and his half-sister, Amy Blalock, of San Marcos, CA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 410 E Carolina Ave, Clinton, SC 29325 or Hospice of Laurens County, PO Box 178, Clinton, SC 29325.
