Myrtle Griffin Cannon age 88, of Laurens, SC passed peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones, Sunday, May 4, 2014 at NHC of Laurens.
She was born in Honea Path, SC on July 26, 1925 to the late Charles B. and Myrtle M. Griffin Cannon.
Ms. Cannon was a graduate of Winthrop College and taught third grade at Ford School in Laurens for more than forty years. She also taught private piano lessons for many years. She loved and was loved by her many students, friends and neighbors.
She is survived by one sister Jacquelyn C. Socha of Aiken, SC and her niece Jacquelyn Kane of Aiken, and nephew Jody Socha of Missouri. She is also survived by her dear neighbors, Wanda and Reid Hall who became part of the Cannon family.
She was predeceased by her brother, Charles B. Cannon, Jr. and her sister, Martha (Betty) Parsons.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 7th at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery and Mausoleum conducted by Rev. Alice MacKeil.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Laurens County Literacy Council, 221 W. Laurens St., Laurens, SC 29360.
