Nonivee “Don” Shipley Gentry, 84, wife of the late George Elmer Gentry, entered into life eternal on June 18, 2008, at her daughter’s residence in Laurens, SC.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Kenneth Marler, Laurens, SC; her son, John Gentry, Ft. Ogelthorpe, GA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Don Rackley, Hixson, TN, and Pat and Willis Shavers, Pisgah, AL; one brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Anita Shipley, Ringgold, GA; one sister-in-law, Anna Lou Gentry Shadwick, Soddy Daisy, TN; six grandchildren and their families, Gayle Arries (husband, Chris), Greg Marler (wife, Maria), Jonathan Gentry (wife, Jamie), Anthony Gentry, Matthew Gentry, and Christina Gentry; seven wonderful great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Patricia K. Gentry, and nine brothers and sisters.
A native of Chattanooga, TN, she was a resident of that area most of her life. An avid and talented quilter, she also had a love of poetry, music, Native American history and family.
The family will receive friends at the Marler residence at 1795 Lakeview Drive in Laurens on Friday, June 20, 2008 until 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of Devotion in Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, TN on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Her four grandsons will serve as pallbearers, along with nephews, Randy Moore and David Moore. Her final resting place will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Carolina, 100 Plaza Circle, Suite A-2, Clinton, SC 29325.
