Norma Elder Davenport Riley, age 74, of 108 Cleveland Street, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia.
She was born in Elberton, GA and was a daughter of the late Thomas Lamar Elder, Jr. and Louise Cauthen Elder.
Norma was a graduate of the University of Georgia. She was the proud Air Force wife of her first husband, the late Colonel Cecil O. Davenport. She enjoyed living all over the world during the 26 years he served his country. She was active in her community, First Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian College.
From her carefree childhood in Georgia to marrying Cecil, her high school sweetheart, and traveling the world, Norma embraced every new experience. Upon retirement she and Cecil returned to friends and family in their beloved Clinton. After losing Cecil, Norma was blessed to meet and marry Bill Riley. They enjoyed traveling, their grandchildren, afternoon bullbat and the company of great friends.
Norma found the most joy in her relationships with family and the many friends she made during her life. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her wonderful ability to tell a story.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Riley; her son and daughter-in-law, Ty Davenport and wife, Hiller, of Columbia; daughters and sons-in-law, Lou Davenport Schraibman, Sally Davenport McKenzie and husband, Rob, of Roswell, GA and Ami Davenport Chastain and husband, James, of Alexandria, VA; step-children, Bai Riley of Smyrna, GA, Lorie McDonald and husband, Alex, of Moore, SC, Mandy Baxley and husband, Robert, of Athens, GA and Wendy English and husband, Rich, of Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren, Nan Davenport, Olivia Schraibman, George Schraibman, Will Schraibman, Robert McKenzie III, Thomas McKenzie, Mallie McKenzie; step-grandchildren, William, Michael and Riley McDonald, Wyman and Loy Brynne Baxley, Ben and Camille English; her sisters-in-law, Joan Shealy, Polly Boyce, Pat Owens, Janice Cannon, Diane Childress, Kathy Keadle and Lynn Elder.
In addition to her parents and first husband, she was predeceased by brothers Thomas L. Elder III and Harry C. Elder and son-in-law Gary Schraibman.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 19th at 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Clinton, SC. The Rev. Dr. Jeri Parrish Perkins is officiating.
The family will receive friends following the church service in the Fellowship Hall.
