Phillip B. Holmes age 73 of 33161 Hwy 76 east died Saturday, Sept. 27th at the Laurens County Hospital.
He was born in Kannapolis, NC and was a son of the late Roby Lee Holmes and Clara Holmes Chapman.
Mr. Holmes was a faithful member of the Joanna First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and on numerous committees. He also served in the US Navy on the USS Philippine Sea. He was a member of the Magnolia Masonic Lodge and the Hejaz Shrine Temple and retired from Teachey Mechanical.
Phillip was an avid baseball fan and player. He played with the Clinton Cavaliers, American Legion and Textile League.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Thomas Holmes; one daughter, Alice Elizabeth “Cookie” Holland of Clinton; one son, Phillip Thomas Holmes of Kinards; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Sullivan Holland and Addye Thomas Holland; one sister, Hilda Baker and her husband Jim of Montgomery, AL; one sister-in-law, Lyree J. Holmes and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Holmes was predeceased by a brother, Robert S. Holmes and a sister, Maxine C. Abercrombie.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Sept. 29th at 3:00 p.m. in the Joanna First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Monday in the church fellowship hall from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.
