Phyllis Shealy Stover, age 80, and the widow of Robert Donald “Don” Stover, Sr., passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, SC.
She was born in Laurens, SC, and was the daughter of the late W.P. and Vignero Green Shealy.
Mrs. Stover was a graduate of Laurens High School and Lander College with a degree in English/Education. During her professional career she taught high school English at Gray Court-Owings High School and worked for many years as a sales associate at Ben Franklin, while raising her children. She was also a long standing member and employed in the Early Childhood Development Center at the First Presbyterian Church of Laurens. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was actively involved in the church and many community organizations.
She is survived by her son, David Wesley Stover and wife Jean Crowder Stover; her daughters, Christina Lee Stover and Elizabeth Stover Balcombe and husband John Edward Balcombe; her grandchildren, Michael Lewis Spearman and wife Amanda Linder Spearman, Jeffrey Allan Stover, Travis Justin Stover and wife Kaitlyn Hodges Stover, Brian Robert Balcombe, and Nicholas Stover; her great-grandchildren, Charleigh Madison Spearman, and Sawyer Jack Spearman; along with 11 nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Robert Donald Stover, Jr. (Bobby).
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, March 22nd at 3:30 p.m. by Rev. Marc Coker at First Presbyterian Church of Laurens, with burial at Westview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the church before the service from 2:00 to 3:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 400 W. Main Street, Laurens, SC 29360 (Portico Fund).
The family will be at the home of her son, David Stover, 106 Philwood Dr., Simpsonville, SC.
