Prue Douglas Waters, age 87, of 122 Pine Street, Clinton, SC died on January 26, 2012 after a brief illness.
He was born in Lowndesville, SC on September 23, 1924, to Alonzo C. Waters and Molly Hill Waters and was the last member of his family. Two brothers and eight sisters predeceased him. Mr. Waters proudly served his country in World War II serving for three years on the USS English in the Pacific Theater.
He is survived by his wife of sixty five years, Louise McGathy Waters and six children-Marion Waters (Ann), Brenda Boyd (Frank), Doris Holtzclaw (Sam), Larry Waters (Vicky), Becky Heaton (Terry), and Allen Waters (Ann). He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson, Chad Boyd.
Mr. Waters retired from Clinton Mills, Bailey Plant and was an avid fan of high school and college sports, an accomplished gardner and a friend to all in his community. He was a member of the Lydia Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Waters’ funeral will be conducted at Gray’s Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, January 29, 2012 with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. and the celebration of his life at 3:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Herb Codington, minister of Lydia Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow the service at Pinelawn Memory Gardens.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers.
