Ralph “Buddy Roe” Smith, Sr., age 75, husband of Patty Turner Smith, passed away, Saturday, March 2, 2024, at his home.
He was born in Woodruff, South Carolina on March 21, 1948, and was the son of the late Lancaster and Mary Cleo Johnson Smith. Ralph was a former employee of over 40 years at Byars Machine Shop, a former member of Laurens Wesleyn Church where he drove the church bus, sang in the choir and assisted in the nursery. He is a current member at Central Methodist Church and a proud US Army Veteran. His “claim to fame” is on the wall at Woodruff High School holding a track record. Most important to Ralph was his love for his family.
In addition to his wife of 52 years, Ralph is survived by his sons, Bo Smith (Heather) of Charlotte, NC and Josh Smith (Angie) of Mauldin; his brother, Robert Smith (Terri) of Woodruff; his grandchildren, Kenneth Hart Smith, Turner Smith and Joy Smith; his nieces, Tracey Davis and Kierstin Beach (Ken); his nephew, BJ Smith; his sister-in-law, Kathy Turner of Laurens and his fur baby, “Little Girl”.
He is predeceased by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Smith; his brother-in-law, Brother Turner and his sister-in-law, Kathy Turner.
The family wishes to give a special thank you to the staff and caregivers of Providence Care Hospice.
Memorial Service with Military Honors will be conducted on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Mauldin Methodist Church at 3:00 PM with Chaplain André Kroneman and Chaplain Craig Mathis officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the Gray Funeral Home of Laurens from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
