Ray Whitten Sligh

February 17, 1930 — July 23, 2021

Ray Whitten Sligh, age 91, of Clinton, passed away Friday, July 23, 2021 at Hospice of Laurens County.

He was born February 17, 1930 in Silverstreet, South Carolina and was a son of the late Thomas Claude, Sr. and Elizabeth Waters Sligh. He was the owner and operator of Mountville grocery and was retired from Southern Bell. Mr. Sligh was a member of the National Guard and also served as a volunteer fireman for several years. He was an avid golfer and a member of Lakeside Country Club.

Mr. Sligh was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Beverly Sligh Adair (Rick) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, Grae Adair, Christian Adair both of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Walter “Lee” Wilson, Jr. (Lani) of Butler, TN; and his great-grandchildren, Talulah Wilson, and Ethan Aspley both of Butler, TN; his sister, Marion S. Bowers of Prosperity, SC; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews, he dearly loved each and every one of them.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sligh was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Sligh Bagwell; his former wife, Joy Rogers Sligh; his brothers, Frank B. Sligh, Charles Edward Sligh, Thomas Claude Sligh, Jr., John Robert Sligh, Lewis F. Sligh; and his sisters, Audrey Sligh Agnew, and Margaret Sligh Shealy, all of Newberry.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 1, 2021, 1PM at Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Clinton with Rev. Steve Keck officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
