Rev. James Benjamin “Ben” Cunningham, 89, of 801 Musgrove Street a resident of Presbyterian Home passed away on April 27, 2019 at Hospice of Laurens County.
He was born in Greenville and was the son of the late Ben and Maude Cunningham.
Rev. Cunningham received his BA from Furman University and a Master of Divinity from Emory University. He served Owings, Bramlett and Patterson Chapel Charge; St. Mark Methodist Church in Charleston; Trinity United Methodist Church in Anderson; Broad Street United Methodist Church in Clinton; St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Greenville and First United Methodist Church in Conway. He also served as District Superintendent in Florence District before retiring in 1995. He was Pastor Emeritus at Broad Street at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife Jane Hunter Cunningham; a son, Mark (Laura) Cunningham; daughters, Kathy (Jimmy) Kelly, Marty (Gary) Brown, Melinda (Peter) Undari and Kristi (Jim) White; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren with another great-grandchild due in July.
Rev. Cunningham was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Walker and a grandson, Benji Cunningham.
A celebration of life will be conducted Tuesday, April 30th at Broad Street United Methodist Church at 2:30 PM by Rev. Steven Keck, Dr. Will Willimon, Rev. George Strait and Rev. Ted Walter.
The family will receive friends following the service in the Cunningham Center.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Melinda Undari at 287 Nottingham Road, Clinton, SC 29325.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Altar Guild Broad Street UMC, 310 North Broad Street, Clinton, SC 29325.
