Richard O. Byrd, 68, of 203 Gary Street, died Saturday, January 31, 2015, in Newberry Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Newberry County and was a son of the late Robert Downs Byrd, Jr. and Belle Courtney Byrd.
Mr. Byrd was retired from Georgia Pacific. He worked with the Newberry Band for over ten years and was a U. S. Air Force veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Williamson Byrd, of the home; his son, Neal Byrd and wife, Stephanie, of Ridgeway; brothers, Robert Downs Byrd, III, of Ruth, NC and Albert (Al) Courtney Byrd of Columbia; grandchildren, Scarlett and Rhiannon; several nieces and nephews and many close friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 3, 2015, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., at Gray Funeral Home of Whitmire. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, followed by interment in the Beth Eden Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Whitmire Fire Department or Whitmire Rescue Squad.
