Richard "Rick" Childers, age 70, of Laurens, SC, husband of Regina Wortman Childers, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at NHC of Laurens.
Born October 26, 1953, in Hickory Grove, SC, he was the eleventh child of the late James Fred Childers, Sr. and Marjorie Hardin Childers. He was formerly employed with Milliken, and also dedicated over 40 years of his life to the florist industry, working at various establishments such as Souvenir Plants, Winn-Dixie, and Ingles. Rick served as the Music Director at Welcome Baptist Church and Gateway Community Church for three decades. He found fulfillment in volunteering at Hospice of Laurens County.
In addition to his wife of 34 years, Rick is survived by his daughter, Rachel Alyse Clayton (Chase); his future granddaughter, Lily Rae (Due June 2024); his sisters, Betty Sue Traylor, Norma Lee Pridemore (Kyle), Shelbegean Bankhead (Ted), and Bonnie "Sug" Anderson; his brothers, Ronnie "Brother" Childers and Tim Childers; his fur-babies, Sue, Prince, Callie, and Ninja; and his second family, Mable Butler and Billy Butler (Tina).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Pete Childers, J.C. Childers, Billy Childers, James "Big Boy" Childers, and David Wayne Childers; father-in-law and mother-in-law, J.P. and Lois Wortman.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 7th at Davidson Street Baptist Church with the Rev. David Brown and Rev. Dan Compton officiating. Entombment will follow at Pinelawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the church.
