Richard Tankersley, age 78, of 109 Prather St. and widower of Doris
V. Tankersley died Saturday, August 23, 2008 in the Newberry County Hospital.
He was born in Whitmire and was the son of the late Lloyd and Mandy Jones Tankersley.
Mr. Tankersley was retired from Shakespeare Co. in Newberry, was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, was a member of the Roseboro Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. He was also a W.W. II U.S. Air Force veteran and was the oldest living continuous member of the American Legion, Whitmire Post.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Kenneth Cook of Newberry, Donna and Lonnie Champion of Whitmire; four grandsons, Jason Crosby of Iraq, Kenny Cook of Newberry, John Champion and David Champion both of Whitmire; three sisters, Betty Hall of Charleston, Jessie Sinclair of Whitmire and Gladys Knox of Chattanooga, TN.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 3:00 p.m. in the Friendship Baptist Church with interment in the Whitmire Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the church.
