Richard Harold Mathews, age 60, of 354 Tranquil Dr. died Friday, September 1, 2006 at his home.
He was born in Athens, GA and was the son of the late Carey Martin Mathews and the late Richard Harold Mathews, Sr.
Mr. Mathews was the owner and operator of American Tire and Wheel and before owning his store in Laurens he was employed with Michelin Americus Research Corporation. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and served on the Board of the Laurens County Water and Sewer Commission and the Dixie Youth Baseball Board of Directors. Mr. Mathews was a member of the First Baptist Church of Laurens.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Jones Mathews of the home; two sons, David Michael Mathews and wife Kelly and Richard Allan (Rick) Mathews all of Greenville; mother-in-law; Mary Cooper Jones of Laurens; three grandchildren, Keaton and Brennan Matthews and Josie Wood; cousins, Carey Brewer and husband Tony, Pam Ripley all of Atlanta, GA., Jack Mathews and wife Kathy of Debary, FL.
Funeral services will be conducted in the First Baptist Church of Laurens at 3:00 p.m. Sunday with burial in Westview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
