Robert Cecil "Zeke" Caldwell

Robert Cecil “Zeke” Caldwell, age 80, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022, at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 31, 1942, in Whitmire, SC and was a son of the late Homer Estel Caldwell and the late Amy Lou Kanning Caldwell. He grew up in Whitmire along with his elder brother and younger sister and graduated from Whitmire High School.
Zeke went on to the University of South Carolina, where he graduated in 1968 with a B.S. in Accounting. He married Ann, the love of his life and, as he would say, his “reason for living,” in 1980.
He was a diehard Gamecock fan, though like most Carolina faithful, threatened to stop watching them after every season if they didn’t improve. A natural with numbers, he enjoyed following the stock market and took great care in sharing his wisdom with those he loved.
Zeke’s greatest loves, however, were his family and making people laugh. Unfailingly kind, thoughtful, and gentle, he was the life of every party and the whisperer of every baby. Whether writing poems for his wife, lightsaber battling with his grandson or orchestrating hilarious family vacation “talk shows” with his daughter and favorite nieces, most things he did were about making others happy. He was always armed with a joke, a hug, and funny family story.
Zeke is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ann Kibler Caldwell; his daughter, Erin Caldwell Zellmer (Jeff); his grandson, Grayson Zellmer; his brother, Floyd Caldwell; and his sister, Joan Caldwell Stevens.
The family will be at his home, 43 Maxwell Drive, Whitmire, SC 29178. The family would also like to extend immense gratitude to the staffs of White Oak Manor and Newberry County Memorial Hospital, Dr. Michael Bernardo, and Laura Odom.
Gray Funeral Home of Whitmire is assisting the family with services.
