Robert "Gene" Eugene Jefferson

Robert “Gene” Eugene Jefferson, 61, of Waterloo, SC, while he was surrounded by his family, departed on Monday, September 16th, 2024.

Gene was born on Wednesday, April 10th, 1963, in Greenville, SC to the late Shirley Morris and Robert Dale Jefferson. He spent his childhood in Mauldin, SC and later moved to Gray Court, SC. In 1988, Gene met his bride, and love of his life, Debra “Debbie” Lynn Jefferson. Together they raised their three sons, Gregory “Greg” Collier (Carla), Robert “Derrick” Jefferson and Thomas “Dale” Jefferson (Sydney). Laying roots in Waterloo, SC he celebrated their becoming of grandparents to Elizabeth “Gracie” Grace Collier and Lucas Dale Jefferson.

A passionate family man and provider, keeper of many skills, Gene was always with something on the docket. He enjoyed spending time with those he loved and their shared interests including, hunting, fishing, automobiles and gardening. Most days, you could find him in his shop, around the grounds surrounding their home or with a project pulled up beside him. 

In addition to his mother and father Gene is predeceased by his supportive and caring grandparents: Shirley Marcell Thackston Swanger, Johney Eugene Swanger, Robert Allen Jefferson, Gorgie Loucille Jefferson.

A loving wife of 36 years, 3 sons and their spouses, and 2 grandchildren Gene is also survived by his four siblings: Kim Alexander, Tammy Tucker (Dwayne), Larry Morris, Chris Morris (Julie), his father: Paul Morris, his lifelong best friend: Nick Petrovich, as well as many family members and friends.

Robert “Gene” Eugene Jefferson, a devoted father, loving husband, caring grandfather and unwavering friend. The memories we share of you, wisdom you provided and love you gave will be cherished for all our days.

The family invites you to join them in the celebration of life at Gray Funeral Home Chapel located at 500 W Main Street, Laurens, SC on Friday, September 20th, 2024, at 2:00 PM, with a visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In remembrance of Gene, a donation may be made to the National Institute of Cancer, 65 International Drive, Greenville, SC 29615, an organization that he commended. The family would also like to extend a sincere thank you for the continuous compassionate care provided to Gene by Prisma Health Cancer Institute-Eastside.
