Robert Eugene Whitlock age 74 formerly of Whitmire, died Thursday, August 14, 2008 in J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home in Newberry.
Mr. Whitlock was born in Clinton on April 4, 1934 , a son of the late Sidney Whitlock and the late Mattie Summers Whitlock both of Clinton.
Mr. Whitlock (Bobby) started his Navy career voluntarily as a member of a Seal team in the early days of the Vietnam War. After eighteen years he retired as a most modest fellow about his amazing accomplishments during his service defending his country. Afterwards he pursued a career as a painter for the Ed Longshore and Sons Company for over twenty years.
Mr. Whitlock siblings are Jodie Ballew of Simpsonville and the late Wayne Whitlock of Clinton.
Surviving are one son, Tony Whitlock of Clinton; a step-son, Tony Wayne Dickert and wife Lenora of Whitmire; two daughters, Judy and Debra of Charleston; two step daughters, Darlene Baxley and husband Russell of Newberry, and Charlene Nichols and husband Mike of Newberry; twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Whitlock was predeceased by a step son, Charles Wayland Gilliam, Jr.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 19th at 1:00 p.m. at Central Avenue Baptist Church in Whitmire conducted by Rev. Tony Dickert and Rev. Wako Cotney.
The family will be at the home of his step son, Rev. Tony Dickert, 508 Eaves Road, Whitmire, SC.
