Ronald "Tweety Bird" Sterling Maness

Ronald “Tweety Bird” Maness, age 84, widower of Jo Lane Maness his wife of 60 years, he passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at his home.
He was born August 4, 1938 in Whitmire, SC and was a son of the late Bascom and Bonnie Tankersley Maness. He was retired from Cone Mills in Carlisle after 43 year of service, he was a member of the Whitmire Pentecostal Holiness Church. Tweety Bird loved the outdoors, to hunt, fish, and frog gig. He also loved to plant a garden, and cook chicken stew for his family and friends.
Tweety Bird is survived by his children, Stephen “Bird” Maness (Lisa) of Whitmire, Lynn Maness (Becky Poag) of Newberry; his grandson, Lee Sims (Aminee) of Newberry; his great-granddaughter, Paisleigh Sims; his brother, Harold Maness (Travis) of North Augusta; his sisters, Jo Ann Wilbanks (Jerry) of Whitmire and Elsie Taylor (Leonard); and his special friend, Randy Wilson.
In addition to his wife and parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Bascom “Junior” Maness and infant brother, Thomas Lowell Maness.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 2 PM at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Whitmire. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from 1 to 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
The family will be at his home, 203 Coleman Avenue, Whitmire, SC 29178.
