Ruth Childs Brown, 91, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center in Laurens, SC.
A native of Hendersonville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Samuel James Childs, Jr. and Jessie McCune Childs.
She was a graduate of Hendersonville High School and attended Mars Hill College and Furman University where she attained a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. She was a former school teacher and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was known for her kindness and love of animals. She spent her final years in the Lake Toxaway Community of North Carolina.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Brown Crow and son-in-law, Dr. Gary F. Crow of Laurens, SC; grandchildren, Gary F. Crow, Jr. of Simpsonville, SC, and Malisa M. Crow and fiancé, Michael V. Giordano of Greenville, SC; four nieces and one nephew. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Henrietta.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John Pitts Brown, Jr.; brothers, Arthur W. Childs and wife, Mary, Samuel J. Childs, Jr. and wife, Clara, Robert B. Childs and wife, Jane; and one nephew.
A graveside service was held Sunday, October 28, 2018, at Laurens City Cemetery, conducted by Reverend Mike McCracken.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Martha Franks Retirement Center for their love and care during this difficult time.
