Ruth Miller Atchison Sharpe, age 89, of Cross Hill, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at the Hospice House of Laurens County.
She was the wife of the late James Edward Sharpe, Sr., and the daughter of the late John Haskell Atchison and Inez Miller Atchison.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cross Hill, as well as former organist, pianist, Sunday School teacher and Church Clerk.
Mrs. Sharpe retired from E.L. Mansure Co. She was a Beckman Center for Mental Health Board Member, member of NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) for Laurens County and former member of the Board of Directors for the Faith Home Greenwood.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Sharpe DeHart of Spartanburg; her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Vaughn Sharpe of Cross Hill; a sister, Lucy Eleazer of Columbia; four grandchildren, Alan DeHart (Tricia) of Spartanburg, Michael DeHart (Shay) of Spartanburg, Karen Sharpe Kirby (Dan) of Greenwood and Sandra Sharpe Croft (Kevin) of Waterloo; and her great-grandchildren, Whitney Exum, Emily DeHart, Brooke Lavender, Brittany Lavender, all of Spartanburg, Hayden Kirby and Griffin Kirby of Greenwood, Lanie Croft and David Croft of Waterloo; and one great-great grandson, Brayden Lavender of Spartanburg.
She was predeceased by a son, James E. Sharpe, Jr. and a sister, Mary Jean Atchison.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21st, at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Cross Hill, SC with burial in Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church an hour before service and the family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
