Ruth Gray Lynch, 74, of 107 Woodland Way Laurens, SC, died on Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Laurens County Hospital. She was born to the late John Sewall and Madeline Cole Gray of Jan. 29, 1932, in Stephens County, (Toccoa), GA.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Laurens and a graduate of Laurens High School, Class of 1949. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was active for most of her life in both church and civic work in Laurens.
She married James Carroll (Buddy) Lynch on Dec. 3, 1949, in Laurens at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. They celebrated their 56th Anniversary at “A Time to Remember”, a family gathering at the home of her brother & sister-in-law, Doug and Kathy Gray, during Thanksgiving weekend of 2005.
Her business career was with Southern States Lumber Company followed by more than 30 years at Duke Power Company, Laurens, where she retired in January, 1992.
She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Carole Lynch Knight and fiancée, Jerry Barnes; one granddaughter, Keisha Knight Taylor and husband, John; and one grandson, Kirby Knight and special friend, Jennifer Craig, all of Laurens. She is also survived by a brother, Hugh Douglas Gray and wife Kathy of Laurens; two sisters, Susie Gray Abercrombie and husband, Bob, of Hickory, NC; and Dottie Gray Noce’ and husband, Peter, of Salem, Virginia; three sisters-in-law, Anna Lynch, Mildred R. Lynch, and Janelle F. Lynch of Laurens, and a former son-in-law, Thomas Keith Knight. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lynch was predeceased by a sister, Marie Gray Sorenson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at 2 pm at First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Bev Kennedy and the Rev. Phil Hall with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Gray Funeral Home from 7-9 pm on Tuesday, March 28, 2006.
