Sam W. Turner, Sr. age 76 of 291 Smithville Rd. passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011.
He was born in Woodruff, SC and was a son of the late Niles Nesbitt and Elizabeth LeRoy Turner.
Mr. Turner served the towns of Clinton and Laurens as a Fire Fighter and retired as Fire Chief of the Edisto Beach Fire Department. He was a certified Fire Fighter Instructor, was a Past President of the SC Fire Fighters Association and member of the SC Fire Fighters Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Palmetto Masonic Lodge #19, the Hejaz Shrine Temple and Gideons International. Mr. Turner was a veteran of the SC National Guard and a member and Deacon of the Beaverdam Baptist Church in Mountville.
Surviving are one son, Sam Turner, Jr. and wife, Ann of Mountville; one daughter, Susan Allman and husband, Bill of Irmo; one sister, Audrey Powers of Simpsonville; grandchildren, Crystal Turner, Sarah Allman, Turner Allman, Ryan Allman and wife, Megan and “#3” Ashley Brouillette.
Mr. Turner in addition to his parents was predeceased by his wife, Jackie Turner and a brother, Niles Turner.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 6th at 2:00 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Phil Bryson with interment in the Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
